"Lumber Fusion"

About: Spire Regency Hospital

In for four nights following a lumber fusion. Pre op preparations very well organised, had a few issues getting records updated as insurer had changed since last treatment at same location. My start time moved a few times on day of op which was communicated to me on phone, that helped me avoid a long wait in a room. Excellent care provided post op by all. Had issues getting my pain under control but team worked well to find final routine and combinations, despite me probably being a little grouchy along the way. Food, facilities and support colleagues were great, engaged and friendly. I got moved from my first room to allow a more poorly patient to be nearer nurses, no problem with that and was asked if that was ok. However ended up on the side of next to the road which is noisy especially as window needed to be open due to heat. In addition there is an internal door that has high traffic that bangs when it closes every few seconds which started to drive me round the bend. Also near those rooms are staff areas for dealing with waste and washing which is a little noisy, especially early in morning. That said don’t expect lie ins in hospital! Quiet at night though.

Physio support really instructive and next steps very clear. Check out pretty slick, took a little longer to sort meds and always find it strange that a hospital can’t prescribe certain controlled drugs and you have to go to your GP straight away. Parking can be sometimes challenging at busy times but system works well. Ps hot chocolate is out of this world!

Overall and having used a few Spire and BMI hospitals in the north west of England this was a good experience dealing with a very painful procedure. Sometimes got mixed communications from different people especially after shift changes but none of this affected my care or safety.

Would use again.
