"PET scan Hubby said " Never Again !!!! ""

About: University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

My Husband attended a PET scan today as we live about 50 miles from the hospital

He has cancer and is in a great deal of pain ,he had to go on his own as the transport will only take patients attending appointments

we were OK with this at the time

He came home about half an hour ago in such a state it takes about an hour to get from the hospital so by the time he got home he was wrecked emotionally and physically

He said " The radiographer was abrupt , uncaring when he was hot and claustrophobic she demanded he stay still he said he was in a state of panic when the ordeal had finished there was no care at all he was rushed out and left to get his own way home No one seemed bothered about his so called arranged transport home they didn't even offer him a drink of water given the advice leaflet said it was important to drink plenty of water to help get the radio active treatment out of his system

He then had to arrange a private taxi to get home and then hope that I had enough money to pay the £125 fare his experience will haunt him at a time when he is at his most vunerable

Thank you very much for posting your review about your husband's care when he visited for a PET scan.

I'm so sorry for his experience and that he had found the radiographer abrupt and uncaring, and that he was not offered a drink of water, especially at this difficult time for him, you and your family.

Due to the seriousness of the concerns you have raised, I would urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team so that they can look into the issues you have raised in your review.

You can contact them on 0800 028 4203 or on feedback@uhcw.nhs.uk.

We are grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients. Thank you again for leaving your comments on NHS Choices.
