"Total Hip Replacement"

About: Leicester General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

March 2015 I had a Left Total Hip Replacement, all of the staff were amazing and I was up walking with a crutch the next morning. Everything seemed to go well, but at my 12 week check up, I expressed how disappointed I was that I could not walk without a walking stick, only to be told that I would always need a stick because my Hip Abductors were damaged during Surgery, leaving me with a Trendelenburg

Gate. Although the Hip pain as completely gone, walking with this gate and with a stick leaves me with a terrible back ache and pain from when I get out of bed until get back into bed at night. I have been to my GP several times , I have written to my GP explaining the problem, he intern sent the letter through to the Consultant. The reply was nothing could be done. But I understand that there is surgery to repair damaged Abductors. I accept that there can be problems with surgery but I also feel that if the problem can be rectified it should be. I also wander if its an age thing, I'n now 71, and have always been extremely active up until Hip surgery. But now I consider myself disabled.
