"Pre-op team assessment appointment."

On Friday 12th Jan. 2018, I took my wife to have a pre-op assessment. After the excellent initial meeting with the consultant we had high expectations of the next appointment. We were informed there was a lot of paper work to get through. We were also offered coffee when the nurse was aware of the tests to be done. After over an hour of questioning & paperwork -I was rushed round to another room for blood pressure & an ECG test

The nurse raced round at such a pace that I had to run to keep up with her & lost sight of what room to go in-she was well aware I have a hip problem & could not keep up with her. I made the staff nurse aware I suffer with White coat syndrome as diagnosed by a Doctor. The ECG was carried out while the nurse seemed to have trouble sticking the pads on me & they kept coming loose.

I was informed my blood pressure was high & also the ECG was abnormal. We then returned to the initial room where my husband was & we were informed I had to take my blood pressure twice daily & also make an appointment to see my Doctor the following Friday for her comments & referral to a cardiologist. We noticed the nurse had a uniform that had ink that had leaked all over her pockets & on her fingers where she also seemed to have a problem with her cuticles. When patient hygiene is paramount we were surprised at the state of her uniform & fingers. We are fully aware of the pressures nursing staff are under-but to impart this to patients is not satisfactory. I was left without any explanation of what the results could mean-this put me in a very stressed situation which I really could have done without. We then received a call on Monday 8th January from a lady from Clare Park who stated they didn't want to do the op there. My husband asked if after seeing a cardiologist & an ECG redone would I be able to reapply to Clare Park-no comment was made. Today Wednesday 10th January I received another call from the same person stating they didn't want to do my op at Clare Park. No explanation was given & the comment was delivered to me in a very abrupt manner -not at all professional. I have been made to feel I was not an acceptable person to be treated at this private hospital. During this stressful time it has sent my blood pressure higher & left me very anxious thinking I might have a serious heart condition. Thanks Clare Park! In fact I am glad now my operation will be done at Frimley Park. Thank goodness I wasn't paying for this myself or I would have wanted a refund.
