The practioner who showed us to the changing area was quite jolly and friendly and tried to put us at ease. Apart from him communication skills, kindness, gentleness and an awareness of the patient's nervousness, was absent. The scanning process is quite scarey. Patients are anxious. They may be feeling unwell. Reassuring words would not go amiss. The tube is narrow and uncomfortable. A recorded voice orders the breathing. This is not a problem but to be greeted with silence at the end as plasters are unceremoniously ripped off just adds to to dehumanization of the process. I felt like an object. Not a human being.
