"Cancer Care"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

In 2009 I was sent for an ultrasound scan and a suspicious lump was found - after a CT scan it was confirmed I had kidney cancer.

I was admitted the day after and Mr Shah talked to me about taking the cancer and leaving the kidney. He then approached me about removing the kidney so that I would not have the worry of whether the cancer was all gone. I agreed that he knew best and I had the operation.

My care has been excellent - I know it is an old cliche but Mr Shah saved my life. I am a worryier and found it hard to cope with the wait for the results of the CT Scans - but Mr Shah's secretary has been so helpful and as much as I realise I am NOT the ONLY patient Mr Shah sees, she has gone out of her way to help me.

I am still being monitored and my next CT Scan is next month and Mr Shah will see me before he goes off to Afghanistan. I know Mr Shah is running in the London Marathon and I will certainly support him and wish him all the very best when he returns to Afghanistan.

My thanks to everyone at Royal Berkshire Hospital and hope the government do not spoil the patient /doctor/consultant relationship that we all share.
