"Total hip replacement for AVN on 27 Dec 2017"

About: Wrightington Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

This was said to be difficult operation with risks due to my complex medical needs.

Consultant and his registrar also the consultant did an amazing job.

Within 5 days I had less pain than for previous year .

Nearly 3 weeks on I am walking well with a rollator. I’ve been in wheelchair for s year .

I have already reduced my pain relief . The wound is very clean, not even any bruising or swelling.

I had a spinal block with sedation, I was somewhat fearful of hearing things like drilling but I was completely unaware.

The anetheatist put the spinal in so quickly I didn’t realise it was in.

My only criticism is being told to plan for 3 day stay when I was always going to need 8 days of IV antibiotics , because I’d travelled a long way I had no visitors to bring fresh clothing. Also being told the date of discharge at your bedside “didn’t mean anything -was just for management “

First night in IDA was a bit of a blur but remember staff being very kind.

Ward A wasvery clean and comfortable . 4bedded bay was large enough and equipped with 2 toilets and shower all kept spotlessly clean.

Well planned and organised, call bells answered very promptly .

Nurses absolutely on top of their game.

Bearingin mind my stay was over New Years bank holiday nothing was missed.

Food choice and quality was good.

Physios attentive and keen to encourage recovery.

All in all what could have been an unpleasant experience was made as easy as possible.

I have no fears about having the other leg done in six months.

Highlight was a staff member offering to wash and soak my feet for me when I was first out of bed.

Quietly efficient she was so kind and caring , well done.

Thank you
