My father in law recently went into Ayr hospital for a surgical procedure. After the surgery he developed confusion disorientation and became very unwell. He was referred promptly by ward staff to the Psychiatric Liaison Team for the elderly and was assessed the same day by a nurse from their team. The nurses assessed him quickly and gave clear person centred advice to ward staff regards further investigations required although hospital staff were already on top of this.
The nurse that visited him was efficient kind and clearly knowledgeable, he was treated with respect and dignity and the support advice and information received by the family at this time. The family were also contacted on his discharge from hospital and helpful advice support and guidance again offered which felt invaluable to a family struggling to manage a difficult situation.
