"Difficulty accessing adult mental health care"

About: Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

NHS Sheffield CCG have taken the decision to seeming fire safe the mental health buildings in the SW of Sheffield leading to 16 mile round trips, by two buses, for some adult mental health users who have no been displaced from the SW of Sheffield (Argyll House) to Birley (East Glade).  I think that this is potentially a breach of the Equalities Act 2010 if/since it can be seen that a number of patients are economically and otherwise prevented from having equal access to these essential services.

In addition, some clients receive taxi fare to reach their treatment, where others do not.

Moreover, service users were publically informed that the SW therapy services would potentially move to Sheffield city centre, in the name of equality of access.  We accepted this as fair - as everyone in the city would then have equal access - only to find that in fact, the service was moved to Birley.  A completely different geographical place, only truly accessible to those living in or very near Birley.

One good thing about the service is the compassion of key workers that go that extra mile.
