Although diagnosed in September, i came in to hospital late November as i was deteriorating. I had severe Aortic Regurgitation and so a replacement Valve was required.
I could quite easily have fallen in to the mindset of doom and gloom but chose to treat the ordeal with optimism and laughter. The fellow patients within our bay in Ward 38 were had the same mindset and so made my stay a positive one.
It also has to be said that the staff on Ward 38 are nothing short of awesome, having to deal with some of the things and people i saw made it more inspiring. It doesn't matter who you are and where you come from, your personal beliefs, the staff treated everyone with dignity and respect.
A special mention has to be given to one particular surgeon and his Cardiothoracic Team. I am sure he and many other Surgeons would say they are merely doing their job but i have to say his passion and skill are second to none and i hope that the Bosses at the hospital will take some time to read this and personally thank him and his team.
Also would like to thanks the fantastic Team on CITU. They are the unsung hero's and have to deal with the immediate post op care and are often forgotten about. They will not go unthanked by me.
With this post i have enclosed a copy to my local MP and Jeremy Hunt in the hope that they give the hospital the recognition it deserves, unfortunately we live in a world were positive thing rarely get mentioned on social media.
I have also joined the Blue Skies Charity in the hope that once i'm back running i will be in a position to give back to a truly amazing team and hospital.
Regards
Gary Parkinson
