"Turned away at the door!"

About: Erith & District Hospital

My mother who is 82 and has Alzheimer’s became more agitated than usual last night and had a temperature and the shivers, and had been sick.

We took her to this urgent care centre and were turned away at the door and refused entry (even though they close at 10, and we arrived before 9.30) as they were “too busy” with 2 patients waiting to be seen.

We ended up in A&E where she was diagnosed with a chest infection and given two lots of antibiotics.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. You are correct Erith Urgent Care Centre is open until 22.00 and the last patient is accepted at 21.45.

The Urgent Care Centre has to be cleared and all staff off the site by 22.00 as that is when the gates to the main hospital are locked. To enable us to do this, the number of patients that are accepted in the evenings has to be monitored. We do offer alternative places that treatment can be accessed. I do understand this can cause frustration to patients for which I apologise.

I am pleased to hear your Mother received the treatment required and I do hope she is recovering.

Best Wishes
