"Orthopaedic Clinic - Royal Oldham Hospital"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Horrendous experience at the Orthopaedic Clinic - Royal Oldham Hospital. I never want to have to use the service again.

I fractured a limb out of area and was provided with emergency treatment and a cd of my xray to take with me to the Fracture clinic. I attended my first appointment at the clinic and was seen 2 hours late because my notes were attached to someone elses.

I was re-xrayed because the dr couldn't see my fracture which took another 2 hours as there was only one radiographer available. I was finally seen by a dr who said yes I did have a fracture and was then treated by an incredibly grumpy orthopaedic technician.

All this time I was in a great deal of pain and at no point did anyone assess this or provide assistance. I have a visual impairment which made using crutches difficult but at no point did anyone acknowledge this or offer help.

I returned 2 weeks later to be told that my injury was insignificant because another dr couldn't see a fracture but then said there might be one but it was only a chip, but was diagnosed with a DVT.

My cast was removed and an air cast provided, after a very grumpy technician had an argument with a dr over whether it was worth giving me one as "they were expensive". She and the dr gave me no instruction on how I was to use this new cast, whether I was to weight bear or not, if I could take it off for bed etc.

I was referred for a scan and to the DVT clinic both of which were brilliant.

At 6 weeks I was discharged without any further advice about my foot except wean yourself off the crutch. I am still in pain now, can't walk on it properly have no feeling in parts of it. Its 3 weeks since I got discharged.
