"Lack of contraceptive facilities."

About: Leicester City PCT

(as the patient),

I am due to have the contraceptive implant, Implanon, removed. Unfortunately, my GP no longer removes them in-house. I have been told to go to St. Peter's Health Centre for a removal, and this is literally my only option.

I have been to St. Peter's before and thoroughly disliked it. I also have a friend who has had a botched removal of the implant at the same place, leaving her with considerable nerve damage - so I'm pretty reticent to go there!

Three years ago, my GP was able to insert the implant, but now I have to go to a clinic I distrust for it to be removed. I am annoyed at the lack of choice, the lack of appointments at St. Peter's (two months wait? Not everyone has the time or inclination to go to a drop-in clinic, and I think two months for a standing appointment is ridiculous) and the fact I was not informed at the time of having the implant inserted that it would have to be removed at this clinic. If I'd known, I wouldn't have had it inserted, I'm so loathe to go there.
