"The dedication and cheer you brought to us"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

I was planned for induction of labour on the Friday. Having been previously informed at clinic that this would take no longer than 3days, it soon became obvious this time frame didn’t take into account the wait for a space in labour ward. It would have been helpful if this potential time frame was discussed in clinic. This was very frustrating although I appreciate unavoidable. We waited a full 2 days without any intervention following the 1st pessary for a space and I think the communication could have been improved during this time. I would like to thank Beverley who was particularly helpful and approachable amongst the westburn ward staff. We were introduced to Zoe, our midwife for labour ward, who was absolutely brilliant and a real asset to AMH. She made the entire experience of labour fly by with her chat and kept us calm despite a previous poor experience of labour. We would also like to thank Fiona who came to assist in the final stages. Before the end of their shift on the Monday, we welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world.

Thank you again for everything, the dedication and cheer you brought to us, and for spending your Christmas helping other families instead of spending it with your own.

Dear Mcgoo2

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us feedback about your induction of labour, and your experience in Labour Ward. The induction process can often be lengthy and I appreciate that this can be very frustrating when 2 days of that process is waiting for a space to move on to the Labour Ward. The team in Westburn Ward and Labour Ward are currently looking at ways to improve upon this, and your feedback will help to inform how we move forward.

Good communication makes such a difference, as you rightly point out, and it is so important that we keep women and their partners informed when sometimes unavoidable delays occur. I will share your feedback with the Antenatal Clinic and Westburn teams.

Bev, Zoe and Fiona will be delighted to receive such lovely comments from you, the staff work very hard, and it's always really great to know that the care they have given has made such a difference to someone, and even better to know that you had a calm positive experience of labour after a previously poor experience.

May I congratulate you on the birth of your son, and wish you and your family all the best for 2018.
