"PAU and Ward 24 Thank you!"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

We would like to thank you for the amazing care our son (and us, his family) received recently.

On 22nd of December 2017, we arrived at the PAU with our 6 week old son, who was running a high temperature and was referred to the PAU by our GP.

We were seen immediately.

Our son was thoroughly assessed: his temperature was taken, he was weighed, his blood was taken, a lumbar puncture performed and a cannula inserted.

All of this happened in a matter of an hour and a half.

While the lumbar puncture was performed, one of the nurses came over to where I stood outside the door and asked if I was okay (she continued to do this during our stay in the hospital).

This, in itself, was so kind and attentive.

So was the fact that every member of your team referred to him by name throughout our stay at your hospital.

The two doctors who looked after us during our stay made us feel reassured with their confidence and with the meticulous way they examined our son each time.

While staying at the hospital, we were given supplies we hadn’t thought to bring to the hospital, especially on the first night, our son was monitored hourly and the staff took the time to smile, ask whether my husband and I were alright and our five year old daughter could play in your wonderfully well-stocked playroom.

Our son was allowed to go home on Christmas day and visited Ward 24 and the PAU for an additonal two days thereafter to continue with his treatment of acyclovir.

When we arrived mid-day on Christmas day, Ward 24 was very busy, yet we were seen by extremely friendly, helpful staff.

After our son was fully dischraged, we received two phone calls from doctors arranging follow-up visits.

We would like to thank you all very much.

You not only looked after the physical health of our boy, but after the emotional well-being of two very worried parents and a five-year-old sister who had to spend much of her Christmas time in hospital.

We think you are marvellous and what you have done for us will always be remembered.

We came away not lamenting the worry and fear we felt during that time, but spending more time talking about the excellent care we received.

I don’t think there could be a bigger compliment for a team of staff.
