"Gastroenterology"

About: Cossham Hospital

Waited hours and was seen by a rather rude individual who decided after a few minutes that I was faking symptoms to get attention, I didn't even get the opportunity to tell them what those symptoms actually were, and my GP had purposely left the letter open so I could explain myself. I have had a long standing GI issue which I was seen and treated for a number of years ago and was told to return if/when my symptoms worsen so that's what I WAS doing. I was subjected to a rant in which I was accused of wasting the NHS's money but if I was adamant I was going to continue my behaviour, then to make another appointment to visit them again, and this specialist assured me they would 'hold my hand' until I 'came to my senses' and left of my own accord, they also tried scare tactics about the types of tests they would have performed. I am highly insulted as a grown educated person in control of all their faculties to be treated like a child. So, I went back to my GP actually in tears who told me to go back to the specialist because i needed treatment, so under duress I did and the Gastroenterologist was even ruder, still wasn't interested in my symptoms or treatment history (which my GP insisted I tell the specialist) and I had tests done which weren't even relevant to my symptoms, then the specialist sent me to a dietician who DID ask me what my symptoms were, I told them and they said they would have a word with the specialist because they weren't sure what was actually being tested for, and when I spoke to the dietician a few weeks later, they said they had spoken to the specialist and the dietician was made aware 'of my situation' and wasn't allowed to speak to me anymore and they hung up. So I am still poorly, my GP's hands are tied as they can only do so much, and I am left with nowhere to turn because of this specialists extraordinary behaviour, and I have rather unfairly, untruthfully and upsettingly been branded as some sort of hypochondriac time waster, which hurts incredibly. I was always taught if you were unwell to go and see a doctor! I'm quite stuck as I can't afford to go private, so I am left this way with both myself and my GP trying to manage my symptoms, but despite my GP's best efforts we're not winning, because I do need a gastrointestinal specialists help and I've really no idea where we'll end up, but if my experience can help others it hasn't been in vain.
