"Positive birth experience"

I gave birth to my first child in October and had a very positive experience with Newham Hospital, specifically the birth centre. I was 2 weeks past my due date and had a low risk pregnancy and was able to have an out patient induction and supported by the midwives to do so. The midwives advised further induction in the labour ward as I was not progressing as quickly as they would have liked but I wanted to give birth in the birth centre without intervention and after discussing the options and listening to my preference and checking risk with consultants I was able to go to the birth centre. The birth centre was brilliant and exactly what I had hoped for. A very clean, calm an supportive environment. The midwives were fantastic, very experienced, kind and encouraging. The birth centre itself had fantastic facilities, including a pool, yoga ball, matts, lighting, en-suit and was really spacious for moving around during labour. After a long labour I ended up having an emergency C-Section due to low hear rate of my baby and the transition to the labour ward and surgery was quick, professional and again very supportive. From the consultants and midwives explaining the reasons to the anaesthesiologist making me smile in a scary situation. I felt in excellent and safe hands throughout the surgery. As we had not expected to be in overnight we got a private room after the surgery and felt well supported,despite it being a very busy post natal ward. I attended free breastfeeding support session in the ward and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I had a really positive birth experience, felt the midwives and consultants were excellent, experienced and listened to me when I questioned the speed of induction and my preference for a natural birth centre experience.
