"Mum admitted on Christmas Day"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

My mum was admitted on Christmas day with a chest infection, pleurisy brought on by possible COPD, (referred for further tests) She was taken straight into resus via ambulance, given the necessary treatment and then onto Short Stay. She did however have a few moves on to AMU throughout the night which was disruptive, given the circumstances though she was informed with every decision. The staff in resuscitation were absolutely amazing. Given the crisis at the moment with vast amount of patients being admitted, staff care for my mum excellent.

She stayed on Short Stay for a number of days and the day staff were incredible, I have to say that we can do things better during this crisis but on the whole her stay was comfortable and she is now on the mend.

I have to praise all clinical and non clinical staff working tirelessly everyday to ensure our NHS still runs effectively, bad press only adds to the sheer stress its under. I applaud everyone who had input into her recovery.

I am very grateful to you for taking the time to share yours and your mum's experience of our hospital. I will forward your lovely comments to the teams in Resus, AMU and the Short Stay Unit... I know your kind words will mean a great deal to the staff in those areas.

With kindest regards

Rebecca Pilling, Quality Improvement Facilitator: Patient Experience.
