"Family planning clinic useless"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

My daughter attended the family planning part at Chester lodge. She had been using the contraceptive pill for the last 3 months. She made the decision to go and get the implant put in as she tends to forget her pill (as teenagers do)

The nurse obviously could not be bothered to listen and dismissed her request for the implant and sent her away with 6 month's of the pill again.

Now I know that most sensible and trained nurses will always encourage people to use the implant so why this nurse thinks it's ok to just do what they wanted is a joke. Wouldn't you think the costs on NHS would be a little better without hoping teenagers don't get pregnant or have to have terminations (especially if the teenager has requested help to never be in that position) looks like another trip to our local clinic. Thanks Sunderland you haven't failed to disappoint

I'm really sorry that you feel like your daughter was not listened to. We would like to find out some more information so we can look into this further. Could I ask you to contact Andrea Cairns, the Department Manager? If you ring our switchboard on 0191 565 6256 and ask them to bleep her on 52057 and pass on your number she will call you back. Either that or if you email me your contact details at nichola.taylor@chsft.nhs.uk I will ask someone to get in touch. Many Thanks.
