"Cardiology wait"

My father was having some issues that made him feel dizzy. He went to the ER where they did a checkup and a heart scan;  he was told he had an irregular heartbeat and was prescribed medicine to help.

After 2 weeks he now gets very out of breath and can't do much. He went to his GP who said obviously his heart isn't working right and referred him to the QE for a cardiologists appointment.  He can't do much still and gets out of breath easily and has all but given up on life and just sits in his chair and falls asleep.

Today he received a letter from the QE saying that he would have to wait 30 weeks minimum just to get and appointment so probably wont be able to see a cardiologist before Christmas 2018 :(

Tthis isn't any good as he needs to see someone sooner and might not even be here in 30 weeks.

Thank you for posting your concerns about the delays your father is experiencing in getting an appointment to see a Cardiologist. Unfortunately this is currently a very oversubscribed service and has an extended waiting list. The Trust has been successful in appointing additional cardiologists but unfortunately this has only partially reduced the pressure on the service.

The service gives priority to all those referred as ‘urgent’ but if the referral is ‘routine’ there is likely to be an extended wait for an appointment. Should the situation alter and your father’s GP feel that the situation is now urgent, the GP can amend the referral accordingly. I hope that your father’s health begins to stabilise over the coming months.
