My wife suffers from complex brittle asthma, and was being treated at rd&e, albeit not of the highest level of service, and 2 emergency admissions later we were still not really satisfied with the quality of the clinical lead treating her. We were then moved to Derriford (we live local to Exeter) for the chest clinic and was going to to an experimental drug which didn't happen. She was then transferred back to rd&e and we were offered an appointment in December, then the end of Jan 18 as the dr was on holiday for all of January, in the mean-time her condition worsened and we contacted the nursing team 3 times of their contact number and left urgent messages to call back - which they did not.
My wife was on her way back from seeing family, and suffered a critical attack on the M5, ending up with the critical care doctors administering 3x adrenalin on the hard shoulder before emergency blue light transfer to their local hospital in North Glouc. She spent 2 hours in resus being stabilised, and even when she was discharged we contacted the rd&e to say we needed urgent intervention.
It took 4 calls to the hospital and the threat of going to the Devon Commissionaires to get a reply - very very disappointing and and near fatal! At least she will now be seen in mid Jan - however, this took a lot of argument from me to do this.
