"Concern about intensive care at Bolton"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

(as a relative),

I was horrified to visit a relative in the intensive care unit at Bolton hospital and found staff who I felt looked terribly unprofessional. The nurse looking after my uncle had long hair which was falling in her face and I felt she was far too busy with other staff to notice my uncle's distress. When I looked round the ward it was apparent that nearly all the staff were female and that all those that I could see had hair that was all over their faces and uniforms, it looked very unclean.

I thought in intensive care the staff would be particularly conscious of hygiene and uniform issues, I was shocked!

My thoughts are that these people are looking after the sickest people in the hospital and they should be hand picked for this job. I wouldn't have expected standards to be so low.

I have since looked into the acrylic nail situation also (I saw one nurse wearing them) and it's clear that no one working in catering or the healthcare industry should wear them, they pose a really infection control hazard.
