"Why did I have to wait months and months"

About: Conquest Hospital

Cataracts in both eyes.

Optician and GP contacted Conquest early 2017, to request removal of cataracts.

GP wrote second time to request more speedy consideration for treatment.

Consultant turned down request.

No assessment by Consultant even offered.

Waited months and months and had to resort to going private in September as my sight was deteriorating rapidly.

A friend was found to have cataracts just recently (in last month) and has been given an appointment at Bexhill Hospital, for assessment in January.

In my opinion, I was treated very badly by whatever system is being operated by the Opthamology Department. My life was virtually on hold for most of 2017 because of failing eyesight.

In the 21st Century, living in the western world, how far should one’s sight be allowed to deteriorate before a consultant should deign to see a patient to assess how handicapped a person is becoming as a result of cataracts?
