"Treated unfairly"

About: Sandwell General Hospital / Accident and emergency

Arrived at a and e at 7.30am on Xmas eve

Had been suffering with bad ear pain/infection for a while & had chest pains . Was quickly seen by a nurse to get the chest pains checked.

told to go in the waiting area and a doc would see me about my ear . 5 hrs later and still waiting and seeing some bloke get called in after only waiting an hr(overheard him say he was there because of an ear infection). I politely asked the lady at the desk when my turn would be.

She was extremely abrupt and rude to me assuming I wanted to argue and told me to wait my turn. I reminded her that sed person hadn’t been waiting long and I had been waiting 5 hours. I asked her to check my name was down to be seen , then saw her call doc in to speak to her .

When finally saw a doc who was lovely . She apologised for my wait and said I think they lost your notes. (Hence the long wait )!!!! I understand things go wrong. But to be made to feel stupid and as if I’d done something wrong when it’s all open plan and everyone can here. Is quite frankly disgusting . I had waited patiently in pain for 5 hours and asked a simple question.

I’d still be sitting there now ( a day later) had I not asked.

There’s loads of reports about nhs stafff getting abused - which is not acceptable. But it works both ways, they also need to learn some respect and manners!!!!

I apologise for the way you were spoken to by a member of staff from the A&E department and for the length of time you waited to be seen.

This is not the sort of care we aim to provide and as such, I have passed on your feedback to our manager with the emergency department so she can ensure that this does not happen again. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
