My daughter came out with a very bad rash on her face and body, I was really worried so I called 111 and they said I would need to get in contact with a primary care service within 2 hours and a doctor would call me back.
Once I spoke to a doctor over the phone they invited me to see the out of hours GP in an appointment at Newark Hospital. When we got there my daughter was a bit distressed but we saw Dr Simone (I think that was her name) and she checked her out very thoroughly (I’ve been to the out of hours gp countless times with my older daughter and they do not often check out children as thoroughly as she did) and she advised it was slapped cheek syndrome which is a virus and she should be fine with calpol and ibuprofen. She even went to the trouble of writing out to us the times when my daughter would next be able to take the calpol and ibuprofen so we didn’t get mixed up and wrote a prescription for nappy rash ointment when she noticed she had bad nappy rash.
I was very happy with the advice she’d given and left the hospital feeling quite relieved. However, three days later my daughter started panting and seemed as though she was breathing too fast, so I called 111 and again went to Newark hospital to see the same out of hours gp. Well I am so relieved I saw her, she checked my daughter out so thoroughly and really looked after her, she advised she would need to go to kingsmill but was too ill to let me drive her and sorted her transfer to go to kings mill in an ambulance due to her oxygen levels not being very good and she had suspected pneumonia. We got to the hospital and were looked after quite well and it turned out she has bronchulitis and we were very relieved and very thankful to all the health care professionals but particularly the gp who had taken such good care of us.
This is not the end of the story though, the same gp called up on Friday to enquire how my daughter was doing, find out how she was treated and to ensure I had been given the correct information of what to look out for! I honestly couldn’t believe a GP who is so busy with literally treating patients could spare the time to give me a call to enquire after her and I honestly could not be more grateful to her and would like to find out where she works regularly so I can send her something as a thank you!
