My wife was admitted to North tees hospital semi conscious with a suspected UTI. Her treatment when she first went in was excellent. I was kept well informed about what was happening. She was started on some antibiotic drips etc and put onto a ward.
This is where the troubles started. My wife had moderate to severe Alzheimer's, cannot communicate very well, was not eating or drinking. I tried phoning the ward for updates but the phone was never answered. This was on a number of occasions. While visiting one time i witnessed the phone ringing for a long time before a member of staff picked the phone up and immediately putting it down. My wife's social worker also experienced these problems.
As my wife could not speak she did not really have a choice of food. It seemed it was just left up to the catering staff. There was very little effort made by the staff to feed her and was often left to me to carry out this job. I cant be there 24 hours a day and fell well below the standard I expect. When I asked to see a doctor about my wife's condition there was never anyone available. To this day I do not know what she was being treated for only what some of the nurses said to me. They did not know very much and only had their handover notes to go by.
I felt that because of her condition she was not getting the same care other patients on the ward were getting. She seemed to be getting ignored because the staff did not know what to do. The senior staff only wanted to do some administrative work and tick all the right boxes when handing out pills.
I could go on and on but what would it achieve. Do you really look at these reviews. I am not the only one that has noticed this. Something must be done to fix it.
"very poor treatment, no consultation, not fed,"
