Unfortunately my 3 year old had an accident at home this morning which required a trip to A&E. Like any parent, I was really upset and worried. Despite the staff on the front desk being extreamy busy they still had time to show empathy. Whilst I waited I witnessed a man enter who was clearly under the influence of something, he was agitated, abusive to staff and got very aggressive, punching glass doors and the walls whilst shouting abuse. The staff dealt with the situation swiftly and professionally the whole time putting themselves at risk. Despite the man’s behaviour they were sympathetic towards him. The situation could of easily escalated but because of their actions it didn’t.
We got seen fairly quickly and the triage Nurse /Doctor (sorry m not sure which) instantly made me feel at ease, so much so that I had a cry because they were so kind and reassuring. My 3 year old was difficult to treat to say the least! Another member of staff had to assist. They were amazing! We were treated and back home in no time. I just wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude to everyone there. Clearly all hospital staff at Southend are under a huge amounts of pressure to deliver the service, often putting up with rude, obnoxious and sometimes aggressive behaviour. I really feel this needs to be recognised. Please pass on my huge thanks :-) you’re all doing an amazing job!
