"Unauthorised Parking In Disabled Bays"

About: Lister Hospital

(as the patient),

I attended the Lister for an appointment this month. I arrived early as I have difficulty walking any distance and the main corridor to the tower block lifts is VERY long. Having spent over twenty minutes driving around the designated 'Disabled' bays on both levels 4 and 5 of the multi story, to find a space, I stopped and check several vehicles utilising these bays. Several, in fact many were not displaying a Blue Badge. The remainder of the car park was  full, and consequently people appeared to be parking in any bay available. There was no sign of any attendant enforcing correct use of these 81 bays! Eventually, the time for my appointment had passed by over ten minutes and I realised the walk to the lifts would take at least a further 10 minutes if I found a space to park immediately. I therefore was forced to abandon my visit and go home. I had to pay on exit for driving around the two stories of the car park and also missed my appointment. I telephoned the department on arriving home and explained why I had not attended. They were sympathetic and said a new appointment would be arranged. From their own statements, this cost the hospital £160 for a missed appointment and me for being unable to park in any bay. I have a big car, some would say "so that is my problem", am aged over 80 and need a wide bay to enter and leave. If I cant get a designated disabled bay to park for an appointment then I am wasting my time attending at all. Please police the disabled bays to prevent their unauthorized use by others who have six floors to choose from.

We're very sorry that this happened and will pass your comments on to the parking team at Indigo Park. In future, as soon as you realise that there is a problem, return to the ground floor and park up in the drop off area. Just go in to the parking office (again on the ground floor), who will make sure that a solution is found quickly - that's their job.

Thank you for getting in touch and sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the parking at the Lister. Indigo look after parking facilities at the hospital and they do check vehicles regularly throughout the day - but we'll share your feedback with them to see if more can be done, so that disabled spaces are available for those who need them.

Update posted by Kayball (the patient)

Thank you very much for your quick response. I am returning on the 22nd December 17 for an additional cardiac appointment so will see if things are any better. I did not know that the parking office is located on the ground floor; by the 'drop off 'area.

Regards
