"111,Paramedic and ambulance team amazing.. But..."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

Firstly, only two doctors and one student nurse told me their names and introduced themselves.

Everyone else walked in, little conversation and did what they needed to. When you are struggling to breath so can hardly talk, this is very unsettling.

I arrived tachycardic and with a bad fever. I needed to be hooked up immediately to monitor my obs but because no body could find the leads I was just left,alone.. Unmonitored close to being moved to Resus.

I was told the plan by the doctor who saw me promptly in ambulance assessments. When I was given medication by the nurse, no consent was asked of and I had to ask what the tablets were (though I knew) to make a point. Now I'm a student nurse so I knew what I was being given, many wouldn't. I had to check what fluids had been put up. I choked on the steroids due to my cough and asked for water, as many know the taste is worse than many drugs. I was told I would get this straight away, the taste and the cough caused me to nearly be sick while completely alone in the bay.

then I was sent to xray, had a lovely porter on the way. The porter on the way back didn't say a word to me, we were both told separately that I was to be moved to majors. The porter walks out of majors with me, still struggling to breath I couldn't catch my breath to ask them where we were going. This could really frighten a more vulnerable patient, especially a lady on her own with a porter who won't even look at you, let alone talk to you.

After circling the hospital and my Mother arrived who was being told different places to myself where I was going. It turned out poor communication lost me my bed in majors so I went back to ambulamce assessment. And my Mother was extremely upset how rude the staff were to her regarding this. After another hour or so I was finally moved to majors to a room with blood on the sink and dirty cups on the table.

An ECG had been requested on handover by the doctor when I arrived, this was completed last, just before i was discharged. I was left for over ten minutes hooked up half dressed.. No dignity. My mum had been kicked out, later told me the nurse lied saying they couldn't find where it was printed, instead the nurse engaged in a personal conversation with other staff.

Now shortly before this, two staff members just knocked and walked into the room without an answer if that was ok.

I was waiting for this to happen while I'm half naked and with the new layout the two male patients across the room would have gotten a good look which they did but I'd luckily covered myself up annoyed at the wait. This is a flawed system. No dignity or respect to leave a patient like that. Cover them up for goodness sake!

I ended up being discharged not knowing what on earth is wrong with me and with very little faith that I have been throughly treated due to the lack of senior staff and also staff overall. I felt staffing levels were dangerous and staff were sitting around when buzzers were going as mine did for a long time.
