"Recent total hip replacement"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a total hip replacement at Ayr  Hospital and am now recovering at home. My treatment was second to none while I was in hospital.

I had my other hip replaced about 12 years ago at Abbey Carrick Glen Hospital privately. I opted for this because I was in terrible pain and the waiting list was very long. My recent op was done within a few weeks (around five) of my consultation with Mr Kenneth Young, who also did my first op, I requested consultation with him, as I had no problem with my previous op and was fortunate enough to be granted this request.

He is a very good doctor, easy to talk to and put me at ease, especially when I was told that I would not be having a general anaesthetic for my op. I was reassured by several of the health professionals I spoke to, and all was well. Everyone in Station 11 at Ayr Hospital are to be praised for the treatment I received. My experience was far better than the private treatment, and no eye watering bill to pay! Well done to the NHS!

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Scotcruiser1,

That is such a positive story, thank you for taking time to share it. It is great that it all worked out so smoothly for you. I will be delighted to pass this to Mr Young and the Station 11 team.

Did you ask Santa for this? What a great Christmas present, (a hip is better than your two front teeth). I hope you are well on the way to mobility now,

Have a great Christmas,

best wishes,

Eunice
