"Terrible surgery"

About: Westfield Medical Centre

You can never get an appointment I had to wait over a month to see the diabetic doctor and that was after explaining that my blood sugar was running very high.

Their repeat prescription system does not work and when you ring up your told that its all the fault of the pharmacy.

When I said I was very upset that I could not get the drugs I needed and would have to find another doctor I was told to go and do so.

Since the previous doctor left it has just got worse and worse. The doctors I have seen have been alright it just virtually impossible to see one. The nurse is excellent.

All the receptionist can say is that they have over 4000 patients and can't be expected to what they need to.

We are sorry that you feel let down by us at this time. Following the retirement of the previous GP who ran the practice we have been trying to catch up with a backlog of diabetic reviews and have been putting on extra GP diabetic clinics in recent months to review these patients and put in place better care plans - this is taking some time and I'm sorry we can't do this any quicker. We also have recruited a new nurse into the team a couple of months ago to help provide more capacity but she is new to primary care so will take some time to gain the specialist practice nurse skills needed - we are doing this as quickly as we can.

We do have occasional issues with the prescription that go electronically between us and the pharmacy - if you contact our Office Manger directly we can look into this and see why it has happened to you and see if we can iron out the issues for you and also for others. We do have to be careful with prescribing to make sure that we do it safely and also have to make sure that repeat medications are reviewed periodically which can affect them being issued efficiently.

We now have three regular Doctors working at the surgery every week and draw on a pool of others including some excellent specialists in diabetes which is helping us deliver better care. We have been trialing for a triage system for appointments and access in recent months but this has not been working as well as we would have liked for patients and we are currently reviewing it to find a better system of making sure patients get seen in a timely manner.

Kind Regards

Nick Nurden
