My son had an head injury through head butting at football, he went to Trowbridge hospital and after examining him he was sent to bath RUH for a second opinion and examination, with a possible skull fracture and the large lump was soft and full of fluid! To me fairly urgent! we got there about 6.45pm, the waiting room had about 10 others waiting. We waited, and waited, an hour later the nurse called him to have blood pressure taken, he then had to wait in waiting room again for doctor,! We waited and waited and just after 3 hours he was told more urgent cases were in front, fair enough I know emergencies come first but to me a head injury should be checked out fairly quick not to be kept waiting for hours! It got to just after 10pm, he’d had enough so left without being seen! Not his best idea I know but only so much waiting, so after a nearly 4 hour wait, he didn’t get seen!
It may not be RUH fault, we need more smaller hospitals and more doctors and nurses,!
