"Pointless counselling phone call"

About: Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS Trust

I was at the lowest of the low and referred myself to this service.

I had a counselling phone session which was a waste of time. Felt like the counsellor (would love to name this person but for their sake I wont) was dismissive all the way through and couldn't care less about how I felt.

I had a breakdown: was suicidal, couldn't even leave my house and was very close to harming myself but the lack of concern on the other end was disgusting! It was almost like 'well you haven't attempted suicide in a while so you must be alright' what a joke.

Got more advice on my diet than how to prevent anxiety attacks.

Barely even got a chance to really talk about what triggers me and how I felt.

Plus I had to fill in a stupid survey two weeks after I had my breakdown, that seemed pointless, of course I am bound to feel a little bit better than previously.

Honestly felt like the counsellor trying to quickly diagnose me so she could hang up the phone and attend to more 'urgent' matters. The result of the phone call was a diagnosis of mild anxiety and mild depression (which I already knew) and some mention of anxiety classes which I haven't got so much as a letter about since the call.

Have decided to get help through my doctors, instead and hopefully they will be of more use than this waste of a phone call.

I know that mental health services are severely underfunded in the UK but when you have staff working for you who don't seem to care or would rather deal with people who are suicidal than people who have agoraphobia and on the verge of a nervous breakdown you have a problem.

Wouldn't recommend this service to my worst enemy, a complete and utter waste of time. If I didn't have my family and friends for support, I honestly don't think I could have gotten through this rough patch. This service certainly didn't help me to feel better.

Feel for others in my situation who don't have a support system like I do because you certainly wont be getting one from here
