"revision hip surgery"

About: Wansbeck Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I attended ward15 for planned revision hip surgery due to infecton. (This was not caused by the hospitat I hasten to add))

Everyone on ward 15 treated me with the greastess of care, dignity and respect. Everywhere was immaculately clean. In the theatre I was put at my ease and everything went according to plan I had my hip revision also bone graft. I cannot thank the annonomous donors enough for donating their bone in the past for it to be available for my surgery. A huge thankyou whoever you are. Following surgery I was in recoverey for a few hours and again received the best of care and kindness. I was then taken to 11a surgical enhanced unit as there was problems with my BP also needed oxygen. Overnight my Bp was dropping dramaticly and the dedicated staff hardly left my bedside trying to bring it under control. They used iv's to eventually bring it stable enough for me to be moved onto 11b bone unit the following morning.11b init matched the same caring dedicated staff I had met so far. Seeing as I had had previous surgeries I knew some of the staff .Every member of staff that I came into contact with showed the proffessionalism care and dedication whichi know I can rely on in Wansbeck hosptal. The wards were immaculately clean thanks to the hard working domestic staff.

I would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone involved in my care.

The one thing I would like to highlight is the fact that I suffer with horrenous veins and even the anthetists have problems with getting cannulars into me..

Everyday my vein collapsed which involved having to go through the arduous task of attacking my veins each time in an attempt to resert another cannular often this could take up to an hour before they were sucssessfull. In the final attempt both my feet needed to be used before finally inserting one in the top of my foot I had to have IV anti biotics so access was priority for me to receive the IV. For the infection.. The staff patience was amazing during their attempts. Because this problem must be well documented in my notes as I have already had two hickman lines and two central lines in in the last couple years I did feel that I should have had a line of some sort inserted while their was an aneathatist on site . This is not in any way a critism of any of the nursing staff. By highlighting this hopefully it will be discussed for future patients in my situation.who arecoming in for planned surgery.

Dear lizbradshaw,

I admire your patience and understanding, thank you for also acknowledging the patience of our staff. It is unfortunate the anaesthetists wasn’t on site at the time of your need, we can only apologise for this. We will learn from your experience in the future.

It is fantastic to know that you were so well cared for by our doctors and nurses during your stay with us on Ward 15. It will be my pleasure to pass your kind review to the staff who looked after you, the entire team on the ward will be very grateful.

It sounds like you had a very traumatic stay in hospital and I do hope you are now on the mend and recovering well at home.

All the best,

Jan
