On the 4th July 2017, I fell from my bike crossing a small Ford at Ratby falling heavily on my right hip requiring an ambulance call-out. It arrived within 20mins and I was delivered to A & E where they diagnosed a broken neck of right femur within the hour. The ambulance crew were outstanding throughout the whole transfer. My waiting in A & E was absolute minimal before being taken to room 3 ward 32 where I stayed for 7 days in total before being released to my home in Burton upon Trent.
From being made as comfortable as possible from the outset, the nurses, doctors, consultants, admin and food was absolutely 5 star rating.
My operation was two days from arriving simply because my existing medication had to be flushed from my system to prevent complications. From here on I recovered very quickly with the outstanding concern and dedication of everyone I came into contact with. At 80 years old I was treated with endless respect and clearly responded to be able to pass the criteria to be allowed home within 7 days. Private medical care would have serious issues to provide a better service than I received.
Many thanks indeed to all concerned and, now almost 5 months on I continue to recover with walking easily several miles and have even done several short cycle rides.
Kindest regards
Derrick Orton
