I was admitted to Whipps Cross last week as it was believed I might need spinal surgery - can't fault getting an MRI scan quickly, and luckily it didn't show that I would need that. However, I was still having problems walking and lifting my leg. I was kept in for 3 nights while it was worked out what to do with me, however there was, I feel, a massive lack of communication between teams. I felt disbelieved by some of the doctors that I was suffering leg heaviness/weakness even though I was, and although I'm under the care of a team at Wx I had to press for the consultants who saw me to speak to my team - I ended up getting them in to speak to me myself. I didn't need to be kept in for 3 days but should have been discharged with a treatment plan and some help, as well as some resolution or idea about what might have happened to me (I am a young and active person so this was quite shocking!). I was woken up at half 1 in the morning and told my scans were all fine but a consultant would see me, then a nurse said I could just go (I still had a catheter in my arm!), I ended up asking for my discharge note and leaving as I was told it might be until the end of the day before seeing a consultant to properly discharge me. Though at first my treatment was amazing, I felt once medical staff couldn't work out what was wrong I was treated like a bit of a time waster but simultaneously left in a bed for days without anyone really coming to see me or update me - I should have been properly discharged given how long I was there for.
