A bit of gardening unfortunately ended with me tripping over a tree trunk and excruciating pain in my arm meant a visit to A&E. I was in a bad way when I arrived, assessed immediately, offered a wheelchair, painkillers, X-rayed, diagnosed and put in a sling all ŵithin forty minutes. I didn't see a doctor during this time but was seen by the most amazing Nurse Practioners who explained everything, treated me and told me about follow up.
I had a broken humerus and given an emergency number if I was concerned and a call from orthopaedics as agreed on the Tuesday.
An appointment and further X-Ray yesterday. Orthopaedics was busy but on time and saw a member of staff about the possibility of osteoporosis which is routine if you are over a certain age and referred for scans and Physio. The consultant was clear about the next steps, positive and answered our questions.
So after all the bad press about the NHS in the press
I felt compelled to write a review as I have to say that my experience has been outstanding, I was in the most horrendous pain when I arrived and the best place for me was back home with pillows and painkillers and a diagnosis.
I would like to thank everyone involved and everyone involved in the thinking behind the slick operation involving information leaflets, follow up care appointments and checking reasons behind the break.
A bit of investigation now means that if I do have osteoporosis I can be treated and look forward to an active future and if I don't I can take steps to strengthen my bones and prevent another break. The most important thing is that I have choices, I was treated with dignity, understanding and medical expertise.
My experience of RBH has been 'Outstanding'
"A&E outstanding"
