"Hospital records lost during a worrying time"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

At the end of august 2010 I was admitted to er with severe abdominal pain. I had an ultrasound scan but nothing showed up. Surgeons thought appendicitis and operated but found appendix ok. What looked like cysts on right ovary were found so they took a picture and left everything saying I would need to see gynae.

This appointment came through for mid December by this time I was having constant pelvic pain and fatigue. Was told I would need an ultrasound and they would put me through menopause for six months before any other treatment. No bloods have been taken at this point or any other scans.

Last week attended gp again as still in pain, general feeling of not well, fatigue, bloating and swollen abdomen. Gp has now taken blood test for various things one being cea and ca125(ovarian cancer) she also called to hospital regarding scan and to ask why I had still not received this.

Gp was informed they had no record of it though it is on my gp notes as this letter was sent to them they said they would contact me to have a scan. Today I called the hospital who has advised they still don't know anything about this?

I will be in touch with gp again tomorrow. This is a worrying time but RIE do not seem to be in a hurry to do anything. Now waiting on blood results which I hope are fine but no thanks to REI. I can't believe that hospital records can be lost this easy. I am now looking to be making an official complaint as this is now four and a half months down the line since problem first started and anyone who knows about ovarian cancer will know this is called the silent killer as most oc's are never found at the early stages. Hopefully my results will be clear. All I want is to know everything will be okay
