"Great support during a scary time"

About: Broomfield Hospital

I was admitted to A&E with a Pregnancy related Atrial Fibrillation episode. This had never happened to me before and I was 32 weeks pregnant. The diagnosis of AF was confirmed by ECG and I was quickly put on beta blockers. Unfortunately these did not resolve the issue and I was admitted to cardiology department for further monitoring and treatment.

Despite some initial suggestions that I should have cardioversion I was lucky enough to gain support from a senior cardiologist and an amazing AF nurse who agreed to as little invasive procedures as possible. I was put on Flecainide and this thankfully ended the episode without the need for anything more drastic.

I was carefully monitored by nurses in the cardiology ward but also by midwifes who came down from the maternity wards to check on me and the baby regularly. Great care was taken to check medication was safe for me and the baby, which I very much appreciated.

I was discharged the next day, and thankfully it hasn't happened again. Baby was born safe and sound. I'm grateful for the care and treatment I received. Everybody at all levels were extremely supportive and the care I received exceeded my expectations.is great!
