"Neucrotic perforated appendix"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent / Accident and emergency

After going into out of hours care and then A&E with severe pain in my stomach I was told by 2 Drs it was period paid and to take paracetamol. The Dr at A&E had taken bloods and confirmed there was a high white blood count. I arrived back in A&E 4 days later and was told it was nothing to do with period pain and was my appendix. I had the appendix removed and was told it was a Neucrotic perforated appendix and good they had taken it out in time after waiting to be slotted in as they didn’t consider it an emergency. The experience only got worse after arriving on the ward, the cleanliness of the ward was disgusting there was blood left in the bath and on the floor for 3 days even with several requests for it to be cleaned. There was sick left in the sink for two days and the amount of nurses who came and took bloods without gloves on I found quite shocking. I requested pain medication on 2 occasions and was told by nurses that it was the end of their shift so they would pass it over and of course didn’t leavening me in pain. There was no communication between the staff and the most frequent comment I heard on the ward was they didnt have enough time off and they wanted more days off together. The standard of support and care was so little I was not offered any support with cleaning myself and was then told that because I have a bathroom it’s expected I did it myself. I found the staff very rude on occasion and not caring at all bar a couple who were quite friendly. I was asked for bloods on several occasion with no explanation why and when asking the nurse what for they didn’t know either. The staff did not fill me with confidence that they knew what they were doing. I would not recommend this hospital and had I had to of stayed longer I would have transferred to another hospital.
