"Very Poor and very good treatment at Lincs"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I was taken to A and E in late November 2017 late evening by ambulance along with the first response paramedic who was amazing as was the ambulance driver very competent attentive care from both. However I can not say the same once I was handed over to the care of the nurse or doctor within A and E.

My observations were only done once in the approx 5. 5 hrs I was there and only once had an ECG (apparently done wrongly as I was told by the heart doctor the next day)I was never given the blood test I was told by the nurse I was to have. The doctor im convinced mistaken me for another patient as asked me "what medication was I taking for my palpatations and which cardiac doctor was I under" I wasnt as this was the first incident!

Then sent me home with no further observations or ecg to check that my heart rate had come down. As my heart rate had been as high as 216 beats per minute. I was tachycardic! I returned to A znd E the next morning feeling unwell and with pain still in my chest. The staff member however this time were very attentive especially the nurse (from bostons pilgrim hospital) who saw me and apologised for the lack of care and way I had been treated. They said they would raise it and that it was not acceptable. After this I was admitted on to EMAU ward where care was excellent the staff wonderfull and from there onto short stay cardiac ward. Again the care and staff exceptional. I have got STV (supra ventricular tachycardia) I am on medication for this while I await an emergency appointment with a heart specialist in Leicester hospital. I feel I have to make a complaint regarding the way I was initially treated to protect not just myself but to safeguard someone else being neglected and suffering a fatal heart attack as a result of negligence. I would like to add im aware of how incredibly busy the staff are up at A and E and indeed Lincoln county hospital on the whole and I realize that the ambulance service are under great pressure also and all do an amazing job. I am extreemly grateful to all the excellent staff who cared for me during my visit.

Dear SVT patient

I am extremely sorry to read about your poor experience during your recent visit to our A&E department. I would like to investigate the concerns you have raised with the staff that were on duty at the time so I would be grateful if you can provide you name and contact detail to patient.experience@ulh.nhs.uk. This will allow me to speak with you directly about the care you received in A&E at Lincoln Hospital.

Our staff do appreciate receiving positive feedback so your comments regarding the very good care you experienced will also be shared with the teams.
