"Birthday Surprise=Chest Pains"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

We came to Nottingham for a long week-end to celebrate my wives birthday we have been many times before and like the whole place, shops restaurants, pubs and canal walks.

On the morning we were due to leave (Monday6th)my wife woke me early saying she had chest pains.Fortunately for us the urgent care was across the road from our hotel. We arrived just after 7.00 am after giving details our feet never touched the floor the concern was about the chest pains and after some tests they decided to send us to Queens by ambulance. This started a whole unknown procedure for us from just after 8.00 am i can honestly say we had the best care you could wish for over what became a very long day We had constant monitoring and updating. After many tests and attention a chest X-ray late in the evening confirmed my wife had a chest infection and blood tests revealed an allergic reaction to statins which she recently started taking. She was released at a little past 11.00pm feeling a great(back to the hotel for nights rest) deal better than when she arrived! We were 100 mile from home (Hemel Hempstead)and would like to thank everyone concerned from the people at the urgent care(receptionist & nurses) to all at Queen's the whole staff get our thanks Ambulance drivers, cleaners, nurses, doctors and anyone i have missed who are a credit to the NHS once again our thanks to all.We felt in safe hands from the minute we arrived until the minute we left.Nottingham can be be proud oh its Hospital service!

Thank you for much for getting in touch.

I’m sorry to hear that your visit to Nottingham has become memorable for the wrong reasons, but glad to hear that your wife is now feeling a lot better.

I’m pleased that you felt in safe hands in our Emergency Department and in our care. I’ve shared your feedback with the team.

Kind regards

Clare Mayfield,

Senior Sister, Emergency Department
