"Unprofessional staff at Eye Unit"

About: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

I had to go for an appoint at Ophthalmology as the result of a referral from my GP today(21st Nov). After about 30 minutes of wait, my name was called and I had all the pre-appointment check with a nurse. I could tell the Eye Unit appeared to be very busy with many out-patients being passed from one staff to another. Following the completion of the first session with a nurse, I was booked to go for an eye scan which was carried out at Measurement 1 room. I was then ushered into the room by the same nurse who was multitasking by seeing another out-patient at the same time. As I got into the Measurement room 1, I saw one of the staff talking to another colleague ( possibly at the same department) who was leaving the room with their bag. I was then told to sit and the staff ( who was to conduct my eye scan) registered my DOB as I told them upon being questioned. The member of staff then asked me to put my chin on the chin rest of the scanning equipment and started the scanning. However half way through the same colleague came to interrupted the scan by asking this staff some questions ( work related like shifts etc) in my presence and both of them kept talking while they were doing the scanning of my eyes.

I was quite annoyed about this, so I came off the equipment. The staff then told me to put my chin back on the rest again in a quite sharp voice as if nagging me whilst their conversation with their colleague continued. The conversation lasted nearly till the end of my eye scan, so the member of staff 'nagged' me to stay put several times, which really got me annoyed.

How would you like it if you were a cancer patient trying to go for a CAT scan or something more serious and the staff conducing the scan would behave like this ??

At the reception of Eye Unit, there is a small poster stuck on the reception board in front of the seating areas that says ' please respect us' ( meaning the staff at the hospital) for all the out-patients to see. I am sure there may get some verbally abusive patients at any hospitals, but I was certainly not one of those patients and on my best behaviour. Clearly these two staff at the hospital did not respect me at all by engaging in their personal conversation whilst conducting my eye scan. Anyway if I can avoid it, I would not go back to this department and the hospital should send me an sincere apology for the disrespectful treatment I received today.
