"I wish the doctor could speak to my mum"

About: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I come to the children's hospital outpatients bit every week or two for my kidneys. I don't worry about it, I just come and get on with it. My mum dosn't speak english so I translate everything for her. This is ok, but it would be good if the doctors could speak my mum's language so I didn't have to tell her everything. Even if just one doctor could speak to my mum then we could just see the same doctors everytime we come.

I like the doctors, they always say hello and remember me. They ask about my dancing which is on a wednesday night before my appointment in the morning on thursdays.

I think the hospital is good. I like the big connect four!

I am 11 years old.

Thank you for your comments.

We're glad you like the hospital, especially the big connect four!

It is difficult to make sure you same the same doctor every time but we make sure that all the information each doctor needs is there for them to see in your notes.

We're sorry that there isn't a doctor available who speaks your mum's language - we can arrange for an interpreter to be there instead of you doing the translation. If you let us know in advance (by calling your consultant's secretary) then we can make sure that's arranged and you won't need to translate everything.

It is great to hear that doctors remember you and ask about your dancing!

Thanks again.
