As a mother of 3 boys I have made several trips to the Sheffield Children's Hospital to A&E and the superb ENT and eye departments over the years. The staff have always been friendly and explained what was happening in regard to treatments and medication.
My last visit was for my middle son to have a grommit fitted in his right ear. On arrival at the daycare unit we were given a locker for our things and my son made good use of the soft play area and toys that were widely available. We saw quite a few staff members: nurses, anesthetist , consultant, porter and all were friendly and put my son at ease.
The operation itself was quick and then my son was taken back to the daycare unit for observation and given a drink and light snack to make sure he could keep food and liquids down.
He was given a medication plan and a clear list of dos and don'ts before being sent home along with his prized bravery certificate.
The professionlism and committment of the staff was oustanding. I feel very proud and privilaged to live in a city with such an amazing resource as the Children's Hospital.
