From the pre-operative appointment, to theatre to leaving the hospital the experience was 1st class. Every member of staff adapted their communication to meet that of my daughter. They spoke to her and involved her in any decision making. Staff adapted their care as my daughter was not feeling especially brave and because of this she said the whole experience was 'like an adventure!' The activity co-ordinator was fantastic in the art of distraction. Throughout the experience they were great at taking not only my daughter's mind off the operation but my husband's and mine also. You can see they love their job and this emanates from them. One minute they were getting crafts for my daughter and in between they were cleaning the fish tank! The nurse was lovely. They were caring, competent, a great communicator and really compassionate. They actually stood and had a conversation with us and looked genuinely interested in the conversation. They both are assets to your team. The consultant was great as they performed a preventative measure in surgery (with our consent) which could have caused trauma to my daughter later if not dealt with. I am ever so thankful for that! My daughter skipped out of the ward (B10) and is on the road to recovery. We are lucky to have such a great paediatric department so close to home.
"Supportive, caring and clean environment."
