I was really anxious about giving birth here as I’d heard it had a reputation. However scans and appointments seemed ok.
I went in twice for reduced movements on one occasion the midwife made me feel like I was wasting their time.
I ended up giving birth via emergency csection, can’t fault the staff there really, they made the decision and baby was born very quickly. The theatre staff tried their best to reassure me.
However when moved to the post natal ward it was horrendous! We were pushed into this little bay, it must have been 11pm all lights where on full, people’s partners were chatting away, bedside alarms were going off constantly. This lasted through out the night. People where admitted at 3-4am the doctors were taking so loudly to them. How was I meant to sleep? I’d just had major surgery and a new born, there was no side rooms. That night I didn’t sleep at all. Midwife found me crying and I said I had no sleep, they didn’t really care. Wrote in my notes I was emotionally unstable!? I had PND badly after previous pregnancy and lack of sleep triggered this so I asked again for a side room which they said no to. I feel like this impacted on my care for baby, surely you prioritise women. The midwife in my pregnancy reassured me I’d get all the support, I really didn’t.
People would just walk into my bad not introducing them self’s,
I asked to see the breastfeeding specialist however was told they ‘don’t just refer all the women’ and didn’t end up seeing one. Was told I could go to children’s centre where they have them - that would be great but considering I can’t drive after a c-section, I’m now having to pay privately to see someone as North mid didn’t support me.
Also there was blood over the floor of the toilet that my husband used the night we go moved to the post natal ward. I was able to get up from bed midday the next day and it was still there.
