"My mum's physio and OT appointments"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy Lanarkshire Community Services / Physiotherapy

(as a carer),

My mum recently got discharged from Wishaw General and was referred to the Clydesdale ICST, who did respond very quickly, however I am deeply disappointed in the service as my mum was independent prior to her stroke and is still only getting input once a week from the physic and OT.  Last week a member of staff went to the wrong address and thankfully the lady from the address brought down the card to state they had been but was sorry they missed my mum and also she thought she was getting a visit the other day from the OT for lunch practice but no show. I am very aware that people can be off sick etc but a courtesy call would have been nice? Do they not have any support workers to continue with the therapy as I feel this would be very beneficial with continued rehab.

Dear concerned daughter,

Thank you for taking the time to highlight your concerns to NHS Lanarkshire as we use such comments to improve our services for the future. I am responding on behalf of Clydesdale ICST, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

It's good to hear that your mum had a quick response following discharge from Wishaw General. I apologise that the OT went to the wrong address and therefore missed seeing you mum. I also apologise on behalf of the OTs that there was no call explaining why the therapist did not visit as arranged.I will feedback this information to the team to ensure they check that they have the correct information when visiting people in their own homes. I will also ask them to ensure someone calls any time a visit has to be cancelled.

I agree with you that it is important for people who have had a stroke to get the right level of therapy input after having a stroke and I'd ask you to contact Monica Bone, team leader of Clydesdale ICST on 0300 303 2445 so she can discuss your mum's needs.

Kind regards, Maureen

Update posted by concerned daughter carluke (a carer)

Thank you for your response. The therapists that come into my mum are lovely, but my main concern, not just for my mum but all stroke patients in the Clydesdale area, I feel they should be getting more input than a few times a week. I am aware we may not have the resources in south lanarkshire that north lanarkshire has, so is it a post code lottery, yeah I think it is.
