"A&E appointment"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I was 3rd patient in the A&E dept, it was approx 7. 40am. I had a painful leg.

I walked to reception. Staff sitting there drinking tea and chatting. Walked up and down to different windows before someone acknowledged I was there then told I need to be at other receptionist.

My whole wait including being seen was 4 hours. I don't understand why it takes so long. On going to the x ray dept I was greeted with "Oh didn't know you were coming. Wish some one had let me know."

Not my problem, no need to have a go at me. Not very professional.

Dear Genie,

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide feedback regarding our x-ray service.

From a radiology perspective, if you would like to discuss this further I would be very pleased to do so, as its important that our colleagues understand how a patient feels.

With regard to the radiographer's comments, without further information I would deduce that, had the radiographer known that there was a patient requiring an xray, then they would have gone to the A and E department to undertake the xray there – which would have saved you walking round to the main xray department.

Additionally, because the radiographer is working alone, they understandably like to be warned before a patient enters the xray department as it is so isolated.

I apologise for the way you felt and will feedback to colleagues generally.

If you are able to be more specific about the time and date and would like to give me a call that would be fine.

Thank you.

Radiology Services Manager,
