"A and E broken foot"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital / Accident and emergency

The A & E department on this particular day was extremely busy so I had to take a seat around the corner of the main room. I heard my name 2 hours later and immediately lept up from my seat (bearing in mind I had a suspected broken foot) as I didn’t want to miss my turn. I turned the corner and the doctor had disappeared, approximately 5 seconds after calling my name. I hopped over to their room as another patient had pointed out where the doctor had come from. The doctor was already sat down at their desk and seemed angry that I had knocked on their door (there was no way I was losing my spot after waiting 2 hours already).

The doctor advised me that I needed an X-ray which was over the other side of A and E. There was absolutely no sympathy that I could not walk, so again I literally hopped on one foot to have an X-ray. It’s a good thing I’m slim and fit.

The X-ray person told me I had a fracture in my foot, but this had to be confirmed by a doctor.

I again hopped to the other side of A & E and purposely sat outside the same doctors room I had come from to save me from having to hop far again. An hour later the doctor called my name and I immediately stood up on one foot and hopped towards their door only to be met with the door shutting in my face. The doctor did not hold the door open for me, even though at this point they knew I had a broken foot!

The doctor told me to go to reception and present them with a sticker they had given me for an appointment to be booked for 1 weeks time. The doctor gave me absolutely no advice on how to manage my foot and seemed keen to move onto the next patient.

I was then advised by a triage nurse that there were no ‘boots’ left for me to wear and they strapped me up in a bandage and sent me away; again with no advice on how to manage my foot.

I absolutely understand that the nhs is at breaking point with all the cuts coming in (I am in the public service too) but I have never in my life been treated with absolute disgust. The doctor did not wait for me after calling my name once, and then slammed the door in my face. I honestly believe that my foot is far worse than when I first went into a & e that evening due to the pressure I put on it. I hope for my sake I don’t have to attend there in the near future. I have never complained about anything in my life and am sorry to have to give this bad review!!!
